Training Committee Report – December 1, 2018 Wenatchee

Training went well this year. Everyone seemed to like the new refresher. Danielle spent a few more hours this year developing script for the lessons to make it easier for the instructors. She plans to do the same for next year.

We discussed whether or not to keep the RT-130 quiz. Everyone said yes.
We had a lot of non-member people taking classes this year. A few of them may join in the coming year as they really liked the personalize service they’ve been getting from the WCFA.

Do we need to buy more shelters to fill any gaps? Do any of you have shelters that need repaired. Kevin and Saul both brought shelters to have them repaired. Danielle will have it done and return them. Kevin said he would like a couple more shelters.

Danielle asked if there were any suggestions for the upcoming refresher. She had some ideas that had been suggested before like 9 line form, more time with radios.

We talked about Tim Logozzo’s need for another instructor in the Yakima area. He did not have any suggestions at this time.

Danielle asked Kevin Curfman how much time he plans to teach this year. Kevin Weed has been signed off and is ready to take the north end classes if Kevin doesn’t mind. All agreed it would be good to have Kevin teach those classes since it was so close for him, which reduces travel and lodging costs.

Danielle recapped that we had told the membership in the spring that Fire in the Field was a worthwhile option to taking the online FFT2 training. We have since learned that the program is not accepted by FS and the NWCG. They said it would be like sending your employees to DNR training. We will inform the members at the later meeting of this news.

The FS established last season that new employees who were training elsewhere that the training would be accepted as long as it met the NWCG Standards. Current employees must take R-6 training from approved providers. The only exception is for employees who also work at their fire departments. That way they aren’t doubling up.

Danielle asked if any of the instructors needed new tee shirts and what color, grey or blue. All voted blue. New shirts will be ordered for Todd Graves, Saul Labanauskas, Charlie Curtis, Tim Logozzo, Dave Rains, Greg Bailey and Kevin Weed.
